Welcome to the page of our Housing Advocacy Support Service!
This service offers independent advocacy support and guidance provided by a qualified independent advocacy practitioner with a background knowledge of local housing related issues and legislation.
This service will prioritise the needs of older people (55+) living in Sandwell with long-term health conditions.
Who We Support:
We support individuals who are:
- Insecurely and/or inappropriately housed
- Living in temporary accommodation
- Experiencing disputes with neighbours
- Involved in disputes with landlords or social housing providers
- Dealing with issues related to housing repairs and/or uninhabitable housing
- Living with health conditions requiring adaptations to their property
- Overcrowded or seeking to downsize their property
The service will link directly with our Voices and Choices Project to support older people:
- To remain / maintain living independently in their own homes, with appropriate support
- Ensure that older people and their families / carers / friends who are considering options around care provider accommodation have access to relevant information and are supported to make informed decisions
Our independent advocates will:
- Connect individuals with specialist agencies and services for housing and homelessness support
- Support people to build or reconnect with social support networks, including family and friends
- Empower people to speak up for themselves and feel more in control
- Ensure that people are fully involved in decisions that affect their lives
- Provide access to clear, accessible information to support informed choices
