Sandwell Together

Assist the needs of local people, in response to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sandwell Together project commenced on the 9th April 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have worked closely with Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and Sandwell Council to establish this service.

Sandwell Together offers an informal model of befriending support for residents who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those who might be described as either older people and/or vulnerable people experiencing mental health issues who have been unable to leave their homes and are isolated and/or alone. The service offers a vital lifeline which is provided by a team of volunteers who maintain contact appropriate to individual need on an on-going basis.

The main aim of the service is to maintain a level of contact with those who require it and provide emotional support. This support addresses issues people face as a result of becoming socially isolated such as loneliness, anxiety, depression, fear etc. by allowing people to talk about their feelings thereby reducing the impact of isolation on an individual’s psycho-social wellbeing.

The Sandwell Together Project supports people to:

  • Provide a confidential listening ear.
  • Address loneliness and isolation.
  • Offer a regular call from a trained volunteer who will be a good listener and non-judgemental.
  • Talk to you about your interests and experiences.
  • Help to improve your quality of life and emotional wellbeing.
