Sandwell Advocacy

August Volunteer Training Session

Volunteer Training Session
Volunteer Training Session

On the 3rd August our Volunteer Coordinator – Katie, delivered training to the latest cohort of Telephone Befrienders, with five people in attendance for the online session.

The session consisted of an overview of Sandwell Advocacy, the history of Sandwell Together, the role of Telephone Befrienders and other important topics such as safeguarding, boundaries and confidentiality.

The volunteers worked through some scenarios, case studies and questions that gave a wider insight into the impact and prevalence of loneliness.

Throughout the session, volunteers actively engaged with one another, sharing their thoughts, experiences, and perspectives.

All those who responded to our feedback request, said they were extremely satisfied with the training, that their roles and responsibilities were explained clearly, and the training covered the information the volunteers need to begin volunteering safely and effectively.

We are also delighted to share that three of the volunteers who attended have already been matched with Telephone Friends* and have begun making a difference in their community.

*Telephone Friend is the name we give the people who we support.
