Independent Advocate – Children and Young People (x 2 Posts)

Salary Scale: £21, 976 – £23 560
(16 Hours/week £10, 042 – £10, 683)
Employers Pension Contribution 5% of salary

This project is funded for three years by BBC Children in Need.

This exciting new project will provide an Advocacy, Enabling and Support service for children and young people who are experiencing poor mental health and/or behavioural issues that empowers them to ensure that their rights are respected and their views and wishes are heard at all times.

Applicants will have:

  • Personal experience of advocating with someone either formally or informally, preferably with children and young people.
  • Experience and understanding of issues relating to the particular health and social care needs of children and young people who may have become marginalized and socially excluded.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles underpinning the effective delivery of advocacy practice within an empowering framework.
  • Ability to develop trusting and effective advocacy partnerships with children and young people that are underpinned by an adherence to promote an individual’s independence, dignity and respect.

ADULT ADVOCACY SUPPORT SERVICE

Advocacy Support Officer

Salary Scale: £7, 465 – £7, 605 (16 Hours/week)
Employers Pension Contribution 5% of salary

You will join a small team on our Advocacy Support Service to provide independent advocacy for people who reside in a variety of care settings around the borough of Sandwell. This service is commissioned by Sandwell MBC as part of their monitoring of standards of care.

You will ensure that there is independent advocacy provision for people of different ages and backgrounds who have care needs and reside in a nursing or residential care home, Extra Care setting and for those who attend Day Care provision.

You will provide an inclusive service for residents, service users and/or relatives to complete monitoring questionnaires. The questionnaires focus on the choices a person has with regard to their care and support and looks at a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. 

You will report back to Sandwell MBC’s Contracts and Monitoring Team to improve the level of care and support available.
