Voices and Choice Project began in 2022 and is funded by the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation. The project is a 3 year campaign to support older people in Sandwell, who have long term-health conditions who have difficulties with their care and accommodation.
When individuals feel vulnerable due to older age, disability, long-health conditions, or other challenges, they can often feel that there is no-one there to help them, to deal with issues and to speak up for them on their behalf.
The project focuses on individuals who:
- Want to remain in their own home and continue to live independently but require support and/or equipment to help them.
- People who are in a residential/care setting and want to return home or wish to move to a different facility.
- Require support when considering their choices and options around care provisions
Helen Charles is a Senior Independent Advocate at Sandwell Advocacy, who feels passionate about the Voices and Choices project, “To have someone on your side, supporting you and to voice your needs, concerns and wishes, towards those who are making decisions about your life can make a significant difference in having your needs met and your voice heard.”
Our client feedback
“I never thought that she would come home again. I didn’t know what else I could do. You came in and listened and observed, they were not able to dismiss what you had wrote in your report. Thank you for everything”
“You got my care put back in place; they took one day off me, but I don’t get anything to eat then. See you listened to me, why can’t they?
